November 5, 2019 - City Election Information

Montgomery County residents interested in running for their City Council or School Board can begin filing papers to place their name on the November 5 ballot. The deadline for filing is Thursday, September 19, 2019 until 5:00 p.m. This is the first year in Iowa that the City and School elections have been combined to be conducted on the same day. School board candidates and community college trustees must file nomination papers with the school board or community college board secretary respectively. City candidates must file nomination papers with the Montgomery County Auditor’s Office.

Filing of nomination papers must include nomination petitions and an affidavit of candidacy for each candidate. Anyone with questions regarding the number of signatures necessary for each position should contact the County Auditor for city information and the school or college secretaries for school information. A candidate must be an eligible elector in the school district and director district (if any) or the city and city ward (if applicable) at the time of filing nomination papers and at the time of the election.
