Montgomery County History Center

Document (2)

The Montgomery County Historical Society was organized in 1945 to help preserve and share our county's history. Over the years as the Historical Society kept growing, they were constantly looking for a bigger and better home. The society has finally found that home, when in 2006, they held the grand opening of their brand new 14,000 square foot building on North 4th Street in Red Oak, Iowa.

The History Center sits on 7 acres of land atop a hill over-looking Red Oak and the history of the county. The center's museum displays cover everything from the Neolithic (Stone Age) to the modern. In addition, the center has art work on display; it houses:

  • Farm equipment (the 1884 barn even has a cow that can be milked)
  • Genealogy records
  • Military history and artifacts
  • Research archives
  • And much more
There are historic buildings on and off site.

Meeting Spaces

The Montgomery County History Center is much more than just a museum. It acts as a community center with meeting spaces and a lecture hall. It provides programs to schools, nursing homes, and various other groups.

Come and make yourself at home in our warm and welcoming center. A place not only to learn, but a place to make friends and meet people. The Center is just north of Red Oak and U.S. Highway 34 on 4th Street, just follow the signs!
